European EMAS Awards 2010
The Directorate General Environment of the European
Commission will announce the winners of the 2010 edition of the
European EMAS Awards on 25th November in Brussels, in the prestigious
Horta style Belgian Comic Strip Center.
The European EMAS Awards is the most prestigious
award in environmental management and has been handed to top companies
and local authorities since 2005.
Reduction
of consumption of raw materials, and other resources as well as
minimisation of waste production and pollution by EMAS registered
organisations are important elements of their environmental performance.
This
year the European Commission will acknowledge
the achievements of those EMAS organisations which have excelled
in issues concerning their Resource Efficiency.
As
regards resource efficiency the following issues should be taken
into account: water consumption, energy consumption, raw materials
consumption, waste generation, wastewater and other emissions generation.
Orgnaisations
will be nominated by Member States in
the following categories:
1. organisations from
the private sector:
- micro-organisations - employing fewer than 10 persons and having
an annual turnover and/or annual balance sheet not exceeding 2
million €
- small organisations - employing fewer than 50 persons and having
an annual turnover and/or annual balance sheet not exceeding 10
million €
- medium sized organisations - employing fewer than 250 persons
and having an annual turnover not exceeding 50 million €,
and/or an annual balance sheet not exceeding 43 million €
- large organisations - employing more than 250 persons and having
an annual turnover exceeding 50 million €, and/or an annual
balance sheet exceeding 43 million €
2. organisations from the public sector:
- small organisations - governing less than 10.000 inhabitants
and/or
employing fewer than 250 persons and having an annual turnover
not exceeding 50 million €, and/or an annual balance sheet
not exceeding 43 million €
- large organisations - governing 10.000 or more inhabitants and/or
employing more than 250 persons and having an annual turnover
exceeding 50 million €, and/or an annual balance sheet exceeding
43 million €
There will be a maximum of six awards per country.
These nominee Awards will be handed out in the evening ceremony.
Awards are handed to representatives of winning organisations only
during the Award Ceremony.
