The EMAS Awards Ceremony will be held on 20th November 2008 at the Hotel Plaza, Brussels, Belgium


The Ceremony will be held in the absolutely unique place called the Theatre Palace. This theatre was created in 1930 as a movie theater, and later classified as an historical monument. Its Art Nouveau decoration has been carefully conserved and is one of the factors that guarantees the success of any event held there.




Location


The location of the Hotel Plaza is very central in the city of Brussels and easily reachable from the airport by train (25 minutes). This will enable to lower CO2 and other GHGs emissions related to the transport and mobility. The venue is situated in a walking distance from the city centre. Many other hotels of different categories can be found near the Hotel Plaza.

The Hotel Plaza has been registered for many years to the Brussels environmental label "Eco-Dynamic". This label has a maximum of 3 stars. The Hotel Plaza has been awarded 2 stars for their outstanding environmental performance.

What is the Brussel's Eco-dynamic label?


The Eco-dynamic label is official recognition of good environmental management practices by public and private enterprises. It rewards their environmental dynamism and their progress in waste management, energy consumption and the rational use of raw materials. It also encourages the introduction of an environmental management system, with a view to the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) or ISO 14001. The label is a 3 stars label, depending on the level of environmental performance within the organisation.

 

Who’s running the label ?


The Brussels Institute for Management of the Environment, or IBGE, is the environment and energy Administration of the Brussels Capital Region. IBGE acts, from the regulatory standpoint, as a research, planning, advisory and information body, as well as an issuer of permits, and a surveillance and control agency. IBGE, in cooperation with other administrations and trade associations, created the voluntary Eco-dynamic company label.


Who can be a candidate for the label?


Any company, whether private, public or semi-public, administration or association, from any sector of activity, for example industry, services, distribution, etc. can obtain the Eco-dynamic label, on the condition that it has a site in the Brussels-Capital Region.
There are currently more than 90 organisations (small, medium and large companies, local authorities NGOs, etc) in Brussels which are labelled with either 1, 2 or 3 stars. To view the complete list of labelled organisations click here.


Recognition with EMAS


A Brussels based EMAS registered organisation gets automatically the 3 stars of the Eco-dynamic label when asking for it. Today, 12 organisations are EMAS registered in the Brussel's Region, and most of them have also been proudly awarded with the 3 stars of the Eco-dynamic label.
