Travel and local transportation

We will take extra care to reduce the environmental footprint of the European EMAS Awards event by providing useful information to participants who would prefer to come by train and public transport. We recommend you, if possible to take the train to come to Brussels. You can calculate the average GHG emissions of your different travel options by using the EcoPassenger online calculator developped by The International Union of Railways (UIC), its European members and Ifeu (the German Institute for Environment and Energy).

Travelling to Brussels by airplane

Brussels has 2 international airports. The airport of Zaventem is closer to the city and provides many opportunities. The airport of Brussels South/Charleroi is located 60 km outside Brussels and provides mainly low cost connections.

Carbon offsetting :

If you travel by airplane, we strongly invite you to invest in carbon offset projects to offset any unavoidable CO2-emissions. This will have the effect of reducing the greenhouse gas emissions elsewhere. This will be achieved by financing valuable projects to promote the use of renewable energies and increase energy efficiency. These measures in the field of renewable energies and energy efficiency firstly lead to emission reductions and secondly make a positive contribution to sustainable development in the region: new jobs and opportunities for income, improved living conditions and an improved standard of living for the local population and technology transfer. The projects supported by these associations are officially recognised projects. These are inspected by an auditing agency recognised by the UNO and are registered with the WWF CDM Gold Standard.
